His selections are appropriate and balanced. Part 1 of the book arranges scientists by discipline and by their "most important work'' (briefly described); included are significant books and journals from each period. Part 2 provides a brief biographical sketch of each scientist, and arranges these by nationality and by the decade in which they began their careers; included are institutions important to the history of science.
